SelectFrame is in development. This guide describes the current Mac workflow; details may change before release.

01 / GETTING STARTED

Your first shoot

  1. Choose Create a New Shoot… and select a folder containing photographs.
  2. Browse the thumbnails and select a photo for the large preview. Folder-based analysis continues in the background.
  3. Mark photographs Keeper, Reject, or Unmarked. Reject is a saved decision; it does not delete the original.
  4. Choose Copy Selects to Folder… when you’re ready to move your keepers into your editing workflow.

JPEG, HEIC, and RAW formats supported by the operating system can be browsed. RAW support varies by camera and macOS version.

Shoots & saved decisions

Where does my progress go?

The app saves shoot information and decisions in its local application storage. It references your photo folder; creating a folder-based shoot does not duplicate the photos. Apple Photos imports are stored as separate local copies.

What if I move or rename a photo folder?

A recent shoot can show that its folder is unavailable. Reconnect the drive or use the offered Locate Folder action. Keep your saved shoot: its decisions have not been deleted. Files are checked before decisions are associated with the new location.

What does Remove from Recents do?

It hides the entry from Recents without deleting its photographs or saved progress. Opening that folder again restores the entry. Close Shoot returns you to the welcome screen.

Do my Macs and mobile devices sync automatically?

No. Decisions are local to each device. The Mac’s portable shoot file can transfer saved decisions between Macs; the photo files travel separately. Automatic sync is not currently available.

What do Suggested Keepers and Potential Issues mean?

Suggested Keepers is a technical shortlist. Potential Issues shows sharpness or exposure concerns. These are review aids, not judgments about the moment or expression, and they do not overwrite your manual decisions.

04 / START FROM YOUR LIBRARY

Importing from Apple Photos

Choose Import from Photos… and select the still images you want to review. SelectFrame copies the image representations supplied by the system picker into its own storage. Your Photos originals, Favorites, and albums are left untouched.

Images available only in iCloud may need downloading first. Imported copies take local disk space, do not track later Photos edits, and are not a complete backup of RAW/JPEG pairs, Live Photos, or editing history.

05 / READY FOR THE EDIT

Copying your selects

On Mac, mark your keepers, then choose Copy Selects to Folder…. Choose a destination and optionally rename copies as a sequence using your shoot name. Copy progress appears in the sidebar.

Originals are not moved or changed. Preview rotation is a display adjustment; copied files keep their source pixels and orientation metadata. The mobile prototype offers Copy Selects through the system share sheet.
